Trying Not To Roll My Ankle At Stone Mountain Park

I spent a day at Stone Mountain Park, which is the most visited attraction in the state of Georgia. Stone Mountain is essentially a large rock where guests can either walk up the side of the rock to the top, or take a cable car. However, Stone Mountain Park is not just for the large stone, as you can go check out historic buildings, hop on the locomotive that loops around the mountain, and experience laser and fireworks shows at night. Despite the mountain's checkered history of being a Confederate memorial, the attraction brings in people of all different lifestyles and beliefs.

We did not have much time to spend at the park, so I made sure to go up to the top of the rock by cable car. The cable car looked scary to go on, but I know it was safe, so I can appreciate the view without fear. As the cable car climbed ever higher to scale the mountain, it became clear to me how large and awe-inspiring this rock actually is. The rock looked like it stretched for miles!

The cable car dropped us at the top of the mountain and we were able to walk around on the massive stone slab. The stone itself is very difficult to walk on because it is uneven. There are many divots and creases caused by years of erosion, and it is seemingly easy to injure yourself on a bad step. On the other hand, the payoff is the hundreds of miles of viewing pleasure around the mountain. On one side of the rock, I was able to see the Atlanta skyline, while lakes and greenery surrounded the entire mountain. It was a beautiful sight.

The top of the mountain itself was not terribly busy with people. I did notice many people walking up to the top of the mountain through the trail, while I noticed others sitting down on the slopes, taking in the sights around them. It seems like a great place to meditate and block out the commotion around you.

Stone Mountain is a beautiful place to spend a day or an evening, as there are many things to experience, and the friendly staff continually maintains the cleanliness of the park.
