Quick Thoughts - Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion

Maybe this is my fault for having high expectations, but I thought the new Crisis Core remake was on the disappointing side. I do not think the new Crisis Core remake was a bad game, but I do not think there was much that made it a good game either. When the Final Fantasy VII Remake was released, I was floored with the overall presentation and its beautifully rendered cut-scenes and music. The new Crisis Core remake feels significantly inferior to the Final Fantasy VII Remake. Maybe I am not supposed to compare the two games, but since Crisis Core is a direct prequel to the events of FFVII, it only seems logical to do so.

The only real positive I can give the Crisis Core remake is that the rendered cut-scenes look solid, but everything else felt like an afterthought, especially compared to FFVII Remake. The visuals during gameplay look decent, but nothing feeling 'next-generation'. The voice-acting feels disjointed at times and struggle to convey the seriousness of the story. The combat is satisfactory, but there is nothing that sets it apart from other games.

Actually, the thing I hate the most about the Crisis Core remake are the boring and repetitive missions that you can access from the save points to complete. These are just cookie-cutter maps with terrible elevator music where you run to the finish and fight monsters along the way. There are around 300 of these missions to complete in a playthrough, but thankfully they are not necessary (but completing these missions will strengthen your character.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion is mid. I will only recommend this game to Final Fantasy fans, and even then, I would buy this game at a discount rather than full price. This game took around 20 hours to complete on my end, which is all the time you need to spend on this game.
