Colosseum and Roman Forum Photo Gallery

I was in Rome for a few days, and my one full day in the city had me check out two of the major attractions in the city. The first attraction was visiting the Colosseum. The Colosseum was an amphitheatre built back in the days of the Roman Empire and hosted events such as gladiatorial contests, animal hunts, and executions. The Colosseum is one of the chosen seven wonders of the modern world, and I was happy to see the structure in person (with a tour guide, of course).

This is going to be more of a photo gallery rather than a full-on blog post as I know there is much history to discuss about the Colosseum, but I forgot about most of what the tour guide told me while on this tour. The day was quite gloomy in Rome but I had to capture the Colosseum in all its splendor.

You walk inside the halls of the Colosseum and with all the crumbling pillars and broken-down structures, there are some imprints of Roman figures; usually in compromising positions.

We get to the actual inside of the Colosseum and I thought the structure was impressive. I was imagining where the seats would be in the structure, and I remember our tour guide showing us renderings of how the Colosseum used to look like back in the Roman Empire times.

I took many more pictures of the interior of the Colosseum. I also want to note that the structures under the stage was where the soldiers had the criminals, slaves, and animals who had to participate in the contests and fight for their survival. It is surreal to be in the same place where there were organized morbid atrocities thousands of years ago.

After the tour of the Colosseum, we walked through the Roman Forum, which was the central area of Ancient Rome. Nothing of note here, we were walking around the different surviving structures of palaces and gardens.

We would walk under several arches, each with its own inscriptions and carvings.

And that is it in terms of things I can tell you with words. Check out the rest of my pictures and videos here:
