I (Briefly) Went Back To University + Winery Drinking

I made a brief stop to somewhere where I have not been in over ten years earlier this summer. I went back to my old university (Brock University) for a visit, and so much has changed from when I graduated back in 2013. I wish I had more time to properly explore my old alma mater, but I was able to do a quick run-through of the university to see what was new and what was still the same.

Right off the bat, I had the overwhelming feeling of nostalgia while walking through the halls of the place where I used to get my university education. I remembered when I would be walking to class at many of the lecture halls, grabbing some food at the numerous food spots in the university, and sitting in the large glass computer lab where I would try to complete my assignments. I remember the friends I made, professors I met, and the many parties.

One thing that was completely new from my visit was that the university built a statue of Sir Issac Brock in front of the tower. There were also some entirely new buildings on the university grounds that I did not get the chance to see. One of my plans next year (if I have a free day) is to come back to my university and properly explore everything. I want to try to find my graduation picture in my graduating class. Hopefully, I will get that chance.

Shifting gears from university, I had the chance to go and tour a winery in the Niagara area. That winery is the 13th Street Winery just next to St. Catharines. The guy that gave us the tour was a friend of my extended family and worked at the winery, so he was able to show us behind-the-scenes on the wine-making process. He showed us all the machines, storage tanks, and all the barrels of wine they had in storage.

After the tour, we sat at an outside area while the winery sommelier brought us numerous wine bottles with different types of wine to try, including white, red, and sparkling wines. He even showed a few of us how to saber a wine bottle (which is opening a wine bottle by rapidly sliding a saber along the neck of the bottle and hitting the collar of the wine bottle so that it breaks).

Our friend took us to the vineyard to show us the types of grapes they have for growing. We were drinking wine out of the glass and sneaking some grapes into our mouths. The winery also had an in-house bakery, and I had the best butter tarts ever made. I made sure to buy a couple bottles of wine for home consumption. All in all, the wine tour was a fun and boozy time, and I would want to check out another winery soon.
