Review: WestJet's In-Flight Pizza

On my 4-hour flight to Montego Bay, I was feeling famished. Normally, I would try to eat something before I board my flight, so I do not have the pay the overpriced amount for in-flight meals. However, the feeling of hunger came over me like a tidal wave while on my flight. I had no choice but to order a meal, and after scouring Westjet's on-board menu, I settled on the pizza (which is described to have authentic tomato sauce), which came at a price of $9.49.

When my pizza arrived at my tray, I was worried that the smell of the pizza would inconvenience the newlywed couple sitting next to me, but I quickly decided that satisfying my hunger was more important. I open my package to see what seems to be a seemingly normal-looking pizza staring back at me, cut into four slices and piping hot.

After waiting for it to cool down a bit, I pull apart one of the slices and take a curious bite of the pizza slice. The pizza tasted exactly like one of those pre-made pizzas that you would buy at the grocery store, with that slight microwaveable feeling inside my mouth. The crust was incredibly tough to bite into, and I wished that WestJet included a dipping sauce with my pizza. Even holding the pizza slice by the crust felt like holding a bread stick left outside for a couple of days.

After finishing my four slices of pizza, I felt a bit gross. With that gross feeling, I began to contemplate how I spent $9.49 on a TV-dinner pizza. I know what I am not going to order again if I ever board a WestJet flight.

Rating: 4/10

This was an overpriced pizza for something that tasted like something that came out of a grocery store freezer.
