Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer Thoughts

If you have been living under a rock for the last little while, we finally got to see the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI. I did not think I was going to see a GTA VI in my lifetime, considering how long ago the initial release of GTA V was. I am so genuinely excited and hyped over this announcement and the trailer that 2025 cannot come soon enough. I just want to offer my brief thoughts on the trailer and offer my general thoughts on the Grand Theft Auto franchise to this point.

The Grand Theft Auto franchise is my favorite video game franchise by a wide margin. I have probably sunk hundreds of hours into each GTA game doing anything I felt like I can do in an open-world. The Grand Theft Auto franchise is the ultimate open-world sandbox video game, and each game perfectly captures the period and setting of each city. There is no video game franchise like it, and while many games try to imitate GTA, you cannot truly duplicate this iconic franchise. There was worry that Rockstar Games was not going to release a GTA VI due to GTA Online making a ludicrous amount of money for the developer/publisher, joining the myths of gamers praying for a new Elder Scrolls or Half-Life. I was not one of those who thought Rockstar was going to stop at GTA V and GTA Online. Even before the major leaks of GTA VI last year, I had the feeling that Rockstar would be working on a new GTA, I just had to hold hope. Finally, my hope had finally received its reward with the first GTA VI trailer.

The first thing that popped out to me were the graphics. There has always been a major evolution in the graphics from each released GTA game, and GTA VI trailer was some of the best graphics I have ever seen. If the actual gameplay looks like what we saw in the trailer, then GTA VI will hands-down be the most gorgeous video game ever made at that point. It is also no surprise that the trailer perfectly captured what a modern South Florida would look like. I am so happy that we get to see a modern Vice City in all its infamous glory with its TikTok-infused social commentary. I am also particularly impressed by the jiggling physics of the various butts shown on the trailer as well.

The end of the trailer showed that the release of GTA VI will be sometime in 2025. I know it is a long way from now, but I will be filling that time with playing other games I am looking forward to. I have no problems giving Rockstar Games all the time it needs to develop the best Grand Theft Auto it can make. I was barely out of university when GTA V first came out. Now it is going to be 12 years that we will finally see a new GTA. This is not just going to be the most hyped video game of all time. Grand Theft Auto VI is probably going to be the most anticipated entertainment property of all time, and looking at the trailer, I think Rockstar Games is going to deliver on that.
