Searching For The Giant At Tonga Lumina

One of the major summer attractions during my stay at Mont-Tremblant was the Tonga Lumina walk held every night at the mountain. Tonga Lumina is a walk that is self-described as a 'sensory experience', in which you walk down a path with various lighting and sound effects. Tickets are $27.99 plus tax for an adult.

The walk starts with a chairlift that takes you partway up the mountain and to a ridge overlooking the Mont-Tremblant village. Immediately, I want to say that view of the village lit up at night looks astounding. It almost felt like you were looking at a Christmas village from afar, even though it is currently the summer time. However, what was not astounding was that I had to walk further up the mountain in order to enter the woods where the sensory experience really started. I already took a chairlift up the mountain, so why do I have to walk further up the mountain?

As you enter the woods and walk the path, this was where you heard the sounds and music, as well as saw all the different statues and lighting effects. The sensory experience was a bit spooky, but it was also impressive to see the organizers create something that felt so complete. The path itself turned into a gentle slope down the mountain, so thankfully, I did not have to do any incline walking anymore.

I should explain the theme of the walk. There is a legend that a long-dormant giant that lives in the woods of Mont-Tremblant has awoken, and it is up to you to satisfy your sense of adventure to search for the giant, and find out the secret it is holding.

Because I was walking on a wooded path in the night, I had to turn on my phone flashlight and point it on the ground so that I can see where I was walking.

The price of a ticket is a little bit steep, but if you are ever in Mont-Tremblant in the summer, then it will be worth it for you to check out Tonga Lumina. The experience reminded me of the 'Legends of Horror' Halloween walk at Casa Loma, but with more of an emphasis on light and sound, rather than physical creations and figures.
