Catching My Breath Atop The Summit Of Mont-Tremblant

Over the August long weekend, I had the privilege of staying a couple of nights at Mont-Tremblant in Quebec. Mont-Tremblant is a town in Quebec just north of Montreal, but its biggest attraction is the mountain overlooking the town, as well as the resort at the foot of the mountain. Most people know Mont-Tremblant for its skiing and other winter activities in the winter season, but the area is just as lively in the summer season. On one early morning, I used the gondola ticket that came with my hotel reservation and jetted myself up to the top of the mountain.

The gondola ride to the top of the mountain was longer than I expected because I underestimated how tall Mont-Tremblant actually was. The gondola would reach what I thought was the top of the mountain, but it would be nothing more than a small crest, and then I would see the gondola go even further up the mountain. As I was looking down on the ground, I would occasionally see hikers walking up the mountain, and then I would think about why anyone would willingly want to walk up Mont-Tremblant. I can only imagine how exhausting that would be. Eventually, the gondola passed the low-hanging morning fog, and the ever-further resort soon became out of sight.

An unreasonable amount of time later, I reached the summit of the mountain and stepped off the gondola. I got my bearings by walking over to the other side of the chalet to see the view of the resort from the top. Luckily, the fog was clearing, and my eyes laid on some of the most beautiful views in the province. The rolling hills and numerous lakes dotted the landscape as far the eye could see. I walked to other areas to look out at different directions from the mountain, and the views were more of the same.

A little ways from the top of the gondola stood an observation tower, which required a little bit of incline hiking and a walk up three flights of stairs. The walk was tiring, but the views from the tiptop of the observation tower were well worth the journey. As I was looking out toward the picturesque landscape, my mind went blank. I temporarily forgot about the stresses of my life and lost myself in the brisk breeze. Life seemed so insignificant to me in that moment and I wished that I did not have to come back down to civilization.
