Spending A Rainy Day On The Rideau Canal

As a part of staying a couple of nights in Ottawa, I went for a boat ride on the Rideau Canal, which was certainly a unique experience. Right of the bat, I have to say that during the duration of the boat ride, there was heavy rain coming down from the sky. Thankfully, there is a covering over the boat, so I did not get too wet (except if you were sitting right at the side of the boat). The rain did not worsen the experience in any way, but rather made the experience more interesting.

One positive note I will mention about the boat ride is that our guide (his name is Brennan) for the boat ride was quite entertaining. You can tell that he enjoyed his job, and he constantly made the guests laugh through jokes and fake stories. He was also knowledgeable about the history of the city itself. I think he did an amazing job in entertaining the guests.

As for the experience itself, although there were some nice views of the city of Ottawa, when we were boating on the canal, there were many spots where we were just boating through trees and vegetation. In addition, you are able to purchase snacks and drinks (including alcoholic beverages) on the boat if you wish.

As for if I would recommend boating on the Rideau Canal, I will leave that up to you. If you have the right tour guide, the tour guide can certainly enhance the experience. However, the ticket price for an adult is quite steep in my opinion ($31.95 plus tax), and I wished there was more to offer in terms of the views of the surrounding area. Overall, I liked the experience, but I would definitely not go on the cruise again.
