My Top 5 Games I Played In 2020

This is going to be a filler post on this blog. I am going to talk about the five best games I have played in 2020, ranked from five to one. Some of these games came out prior to 2020, but these were games I completed in 2020. My only rule is that I have not played any of these games before. Super Mario Galaxy would have been on this list, but I have played the game years before for the Nintendo Wii, so I am not including it. Let us get on with it then...

5: The Last of Us Part II

I know that The Last of Us Part II is the game of 2020 for many publications, but it only just makes my list. Although I found the gameplay to be monotonous at times, there is no question that the game's story, narrative, and atmosphere is such that only few video games released in history can match.

4: Celeste

Celeste is one of the best old-school style platformers out there. The game mechanics feel so perfect, with its tight controls, excellent level design, and the ability to retry the screen immediately when you die. The personal mental health journey feels like the cherry on top of a well-packaged game.

3: Judgment

Judgement is the Yakuza spinoff that feels almost exactly like a Yakuza game. There is an engaging, high-quality story that differs a bit from the usual Yakuza shenanigans. In addition, there is the usual variety of fleshed-out gameplay, such as racing drones and playing a Mario Party-styled side game.

2: Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition

I know the original Xenoblade Chronicles came out around a decade ago, but I simply loved this game. The updated soundtrack for the Definitive Edition is among the best soundtracks I have heard and rivals Final Fantasy's soundtracks. The characters are likable and relatable, and the over-arching story is interesting and full with emotion. Truly an outstanding RPG.

My quick thoughts here.

1: Final Fantasy VII Remake

The Final Fantasy VII Remake is the best video game I have played in 2020. This remake had so much hype that I did not think the game would have achieved such inflated expectations. Thankfully, the remake met and exceeded those expectations. The whole presentation of the game, from the graphics and cut-scenes, to the audio and voice acting, was incredible. The combat and general gameplay felt solid as well. Overall, I had the most fun playing the Final Fantasy VII Remake and I cannot wait for the continuation of the story.
