Celebrity Infinity Highlights

This will be a companion post to my recent cruise ship review on the Celebrity Infinity, for which I was a guest for the ship's voyage around the Adriatic Sea and the Greek Islands. This post will be less formal in nature, and I want to share some experiences I had aboard the ship that I could not fit in my previous post. There were a number of things happening on the ship, and I tried to experience as much as I can. So without further ado, here were my highlights onboard the Celebrity Infinity.

You cannot go on a cruise ship without going up to the top decks and checking out the view around you. I took some pictures of the surrounding views when the ship was docked in Ravenna, Italy before our cruise voyage was set to begin.

I also could not help but take some pictures of the sunset as the cruise was chugging along. These sunset pictures from the cruise ships always come out so beautiful.

Here are a couple of pictures of the main pools on the ship. I took these pictures before we started sailing, but usually these pools get pretty busy during the day and especially on the one day at sea.

My pool of choice on the ship was the Solarium. The Solarium pool was an adults-only pool that wasn't as busy as the main pools. I loved spending my time in this pool, as it was nice and warm, and there were sitting areas with jets where they can massage your body. The Solarium pool was almost as warm as the hot tubs. As much as I enjoyed this pool, I did not want to stay in the pool for an extended amount of time, as I felt like I might be cooked alive.

Here is some video I took of the moon reflecting off the water while sailing at night. Forgive the random conversation going on at the time.

I went to the majority of the theater shows on the ship, and they all ranged from decently entertaining to downright boring. The target audience for most of these shows is definitely the senior crowd. The shows range from Broadway-style musicals to acrobatic and singing performances. There were also comedian and magician shows on the ship as well. The musical tribute show on the ship was NOT Michael Jackson this time, but rather The Beatles. Again, this really highlights the audience that Celebrity Cruises expect to go to their ships. I did not go to this show as The Beatles were well before my time, also probably before my parents' time.

Every morning after breakfast in the buffet, I would go down to the dedicated coffee bar and get myself the hot chocolate with the whipped cream and the chocolate sauce. The hot chocolate was quite good and it was always a good start to the day.

There was also a gelato bar across from the coffee bar, but you had to pay extra to get some, which was silly. I believe the gelato was included in my cruise fare on the MSC Seaside.

There was a deck party one night where many guests were wearing white and there was a band playing music and the guests were dancing. This was nowhere near as fun as the deck party on the MSC Seaside, again owing to the general seniority of the crowd. There would also be silent discos, which looks hilarious when you are on the outside looking in.

At the Martini Bar, I pre-paid for a sampler of 6 mini martinis (called the Martini Flight). I do not remember all of the different martinis that were made, but I do remember that I really liked the lychee martini and hated drinking the original martini. Even though these were mini martini glasses, there was still a significant amount of booze that needed to be drunk. The two guys that were with me did not want to help much with drinking the martinis, so I had to consume a large majority of the liquid. The ensuing experience being day-drunk on a copious amount of martinis was an interesting one.

I was invited to a mixology demonstration at the Constellation Lounge where I watched the same flair bartender that made my martini flight make a selection of three cocktails. The resident ship band accompanied the bartender as they added more to their music when the bartender added another ingredient to the cocktail. The cocktails were a Manhattan, a Mai Tai, and a Pimms cocktail. They were all solid, and I was glad to be a part of this event.

On most late nights on the ship, I ended up at the Constellation Lounge which served as the nightclub. The DJs were spinning classic and modern danceable tunes for everyone to dance to, while the drinks were free-flowing at the bar behind the dance floor. As more of our large Caribbean family came to the club and as the night wore on, the DJs would all start playing soca for the rest of the night. It was fine in the beginning, but by the end of the cruise, I found myself getting bored with the DJs playing the same soca songs and driving away most of the white people looking to dance.

The only other place that would be open at the time would be the buffet with the pizza that tasted like nothing. Sometimes I would just go out into the deck and gaze out into the nothingness of the sea. I would think about the beginning days of the cruise where many of the cruise staff would pester me into going to the art auction like I have money to spend on art pieces.

I should also mention that I had an onboard credit on the ship, which I ended up spending on an expensive bottle of Macallan scotch whisky.

These were my memories of the Celebrity Infinity. Here are some additional pictures/videos of my time cruising.
