Vancouver Lookout Media Gallery + Gastown Steam Clock

One of the things you can do in Vancouver is to go up to the Vancouver Lookout to get 360-degree views of Vancouver and the surrounding area. I believe admission was around $21 plus tax, which was not too bad. Right off the bat, I forgot to get a picture of the actual Vancouver Lookout tower up close, but you will see it in another upcoming Vancouver post, so here is a generic downtown Vancouver picture.

The experience starts with the glass elevator, where you can see yourself go up and down the building. This reminded me of going up the CN Tower a long time ago, but I am always still a little freaked out by being on an elevator where I can see it going up and down.

You get to the top of the tower, and there is a walkway right around the lookout where you can see all around Vancouver and the surrounding area. As you walk around, there would be descriptions of various neighbourhoods and buildings that give history and context of what you are looking at. The first view I saw was BC Place and Rogers Arena, which are home to the various Vancouver sports franchises. If you have not seen my experience checking out a Vancouver Whitecaps match at BC Place, please take a look. I always liked the exterior look of BC Place, as it looks like a crown in the city. I am having this debate in my head on what is the better-looking stadium exterior: BC Place or the Skydome (Rogers Centre) in Toronto. I think BC Place is the better-looking stadium by itself, but I think the Skydome is the better-looking stadium when you take the overall Toronto skyline into account.

The next view in the distance is the city of Surrey. The Toronto comparison would be looking at Mississauga or Brampton from the CN Tower.

Continuing my walk around the 360-degree view of Vancouver, the next view was the Port of Vancouver, and this is where you start to see the hills and mountains in the distance.

I caught a video of a seaplane making a landing in the water with Canada Place peeking in front of it, which was cool. I do not remember ever seeing a seaplane land before so this was a first for me.

I walk further and I now start to see downtown proper, but I made sure to get a zoomed-in photo of the hills in the distance, and what I assume to be extremely expensive properties in those hills. I believe that Vancouver has the most expensive housing market in Canada.

Finally, I get the picture of downtown Vancouver, and it is only growing. I have a similar shot of downtown Toronto from when I was up in the CN Tower years ago. Overall, I think the Vancouver Lookout is worth checking out at its price point, and you can get some unique views of Vancouver and the surrounding area.

I will end this post with some snaps of the Gastown Steam Clock, which was…a clock…with steam coming out of it.
