PEI's Beach And Lighthouse Tour

On my Prince Edward Island vacation, I spent much of my time driving around visiting different beaches and lighthouses. Although I did not visit every single beach and lighthouse on the island, I visited enough of them where I could detail it all in a blog post. I did not realize there were so many lighthouses on the island, and I want to show you what I found.

When I landed at Charlottetown Airport (which was probably the smallest airport I have been to so far), and picked up my rental car. I drove north to the village of Dalvay-By-The-Sea to check out Dalvay Beach. It was a gloomy and slightly chilly first day on the island, so there was no one on the beach. It was fine for me as I got to see uninterrupted coastline seemingly stretching for kilometres on end. There was also a historic inn just inland which is apparently one of the top ten most romantic places in Canada, but I did not test that claim.

I drive further down the road and I see my first lighthouse of the trip, which is the Covehead Harbour Lighthouse. This lighthouse is one of the smallest of the island with a nice beach just beyond it.

My second day on the island includes my visit to the West Point Lighthouse, but I already wrote an entire post about my climb up to the top, so check it out after you read everything here.

My third day on the island was a beautiful one with the most lighthouse visits by far; each with its own unique views. The first stop was Point Prim Lighthouse, which is P.E.I.’s oldest lighthouse, and this was a beautiful looking lighthouse. As I went to this lighthouse in the early morning, I essentially had this place all to myself.

Beyond the lighthouse were nice views of the Northumberland Strait with what I imagine would be chilly water.

There was also a small gift shop but it was not open when I arrived at the lighthouse.

After a brief stop at the Wood Islands Information Center for a Gatorade (which I later found out there was a lighthouse that I forgot to visit), I pushed forward to the Cape Bear Lighthouse, which was a smaller square lighthouse. It is the same deal as the Point Prim Lighthouse with admission to climb the lighthouse, views of the ocean, and a small gift shop.

I got a nice picture of the cliff face jutting out to the Northumberland Strait. It is another beautiful place to sit, relax, and take in the beautiful and crisp maritime air.

My next stop is the Panmure Island Lighthouse on Panmure Island. There is a bridge that connects the main island to this island with a Provincial Park and Beach which was somewhat busy when I arrived. While the day passes, there will be more tourists at these lighthouses. Panmure Island Lighthouse is an octagonal lighthouse which looks amazing. There is a sitting area where you can get views of the sea.

I got this nice picture of an old barn on the edge of the sea.

I head to the far east end of Prince Edward Island to the East Point Lighthouse, which is on the most eastern edge of the island. This lighthouse was probably the busiest tourist attraction on my trip with a large gift shop and many people paying admission to climb the lighthouse. The wind was crazy here as the waves crashed into the rocky edge of the island.

I spotted the ferry that took guests from the town of Souris to Iles-De-La-Madeleine in Quebec and back again.

Finally, on the last day of my trip, I went to check out Chelton Beach on the south-east end of Prince Edward Island, where I got a unique view of the Confederation Bridge. There will be more about the Confederation Bridge on the next PEI post.

So, this was my time visiting some of the beaches and lighthouses of Prince Edward Island, which were fun visits. I am glad I got to visit these different beaches and lighthouses, as I probably would not have had the chance to do otherwise.
