Springfield, Universal Studios Florida

The Simpsons is probably one of my most beloved TV shows, and I have Seasons 1-12 on DVD ready for watching whenever I need it. When I first heard that there will be a Simpsons-themed area at Universal Studios Florida, I hoped that I would, at some point, make my way over there to check it out. I can cross an item off my bucket list because I got to experience Springfield at Universal Studios Florida. As a Simpsons fan, this was a dream come true.

There are two rides in the Simpsons area in Universal. There is the main Simpsons Ride which is a motion-simulator and which used to be the Back to the Future ride. As you wait in the line, there were TVs that played classic Simpsons clips of the family at various theme park outings (Itchy and Scratchy land is one classic example). The ride itself was quite fun and not terribly nauseating.

The other ride was a Kang and Kodos-themed twirly ride that is clearly for children, but I did not take a picture of this. There were also some Midway-style games in the area where the Simpsons Ride is, which is supposed to give the "Krustyland" vibe.

When you walk through the area, the exterior buildings are the storefronts of the well-known buildings in the show, such as Krusty Burger and Moe's Tavern.

There were also some quick-service outdoor food spots, such as the Bumblebee Man's Taco Shack and Lard Lad Donuts (and Ice Cream). There was also a food court inside the Cletus Chicken Shack with themed food and drink spots, including Flaming Moe's. I wish I ordered a Flaming Moe while I was there, but I did not think of it and I had limited time in the Simpsons area.

One place I made sure to check out was the re-creation of Moe's Tavern, and I have to tell you, I think this was the highlight of my time at the Simpsons area. The inside of Moe's Tavern looked exactly like the show. The statue of a puzzled Barney Gumble looking inside an empty beer glass really made me feel like I was at home.

I could not go to Moe's and not try the Love Tester. Unfortunately, Grampa Simpson's soul is not in the Love Tester. I got Hot Tamale, though I did see someone get visibly upset when they got Cold Fish.

I channeled my inner Homer Simpson, sat on one of the stools, and ordered a plastic cup Duff Beer (the bar cannot give you real glasses for health and safety reasons I presume). I sat there like one of the barflies that frequent the bar in the show and drank my Duff beer, which was decent. The old pink TV in the corner played classic Simpsons clips of Homer and Moe at the tavern (with a few prank calls from Bart to Moe as well).

There were many little details and props in the Simpsons area at Universal that long-time Simpsons fans would appreciate, but I saw many of these details inside Moe's and I really liked these little touches that really enhanced the experience.

The Kwik-E-Mart is the main gift shop in the Simpsons area where you can get some merchandise that is only sold in Universal Studios. I picked up a few things that were suitcase friendly, such as a bottle opener of Surly, one of the Seven Duffs, and a Bort keychain. I was lucky to snag one of those Bort keychains as those things sell out quick.

I will write a separate post on the rest of Universal Studios as well so look out for that.
