Drinking In The Library (Bar)

After the Formula 1 exhibition, I had an afternoon in Toronto to treat myself. I could not think of a better way to treat myself than to go to a hotel bar inside one of the most prestigious luxury hotels in Toronto.

I had a few drinks inside the Library Bar, which is inside the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. The Library Bar is not a library, but rather a room with a bar and some cozy spaces to sit. I walk inside and I immediately realize that this place was a premium establishment with high-class furnishings, including leather chairs and couches, and pictures and paintings everywhere, all wrapped up in a dark but brightly lit atmosphere. I felt underdressed with my dark jeans, polyester shirt, and a black zip-up sweater, but the attendant allowed me to sit by the bar.

I already knew the drink I wanted to get, as the usual bars I go to will never make this drink. I ordered a lychee martini. I am not a martini person, but when I had the lychee martini as part of the martini flight while on the Celebrity Infinity, I knew this drink was going to be a favorite of mine. I watched the bartender make the drink in front of me in awe, and I got my martini glass full of the precious liquid. The martini smelled so fragrant, and when I finally had a sip, I felt like I was drinking the Nectar of the Gods.

I ordered a dessert to go along with my drink, which was a sort of fancy smores dessert with ice cream, a graham cracker, and a few other ingredients that I cannot particularly describe. The chef brought out the dessert for me inside a glass enclosure, and when he removed the glass, the smell of a warm campfire filled the area (and my senses). The dessert tasted excellent as well, with the ice cream, graham cracker, and chocolate-covered rice.

I was getting a sense of where I was. I noticed that many (if not most) of the patrons in the bar were in semi-formal attire having afternoon tea. The other thing I was looking at was the shelf of liquor behind the bartender. There was one specific bottle that caught my eye that I have never seen before. That bottle was the Macallan M, which is one of the most expensive bottles of liquor you can purchase. One ounce of the Macallan M retailed for about $800, which was crazy to me.

I had a couple of more cocktails, including a spicy red cocktail featuring Johnnie Walker Black Label, which making conversation with the bartender, who was an absolute delight. I am sure she has spoken to many interesting patrons while tending to probably one of the most unique bars in the city. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience inside the Library Bar, and if you have the funds, go have a drink inside the room.
