The Nintendo Switch 2 is now out, and it got me thinking about the Nintendo Switch 1 era of video games. The Nintendo Switch is one of the company's most successful consoles, with many great games in the console's life cycle. I want to list my top ten favourite games exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. I know there are some high-profile games that I have not played yet, including Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Pikmin 4, and Splatoon 3. I still like to think that I have played enough Switch games that I can produce my very own top ten list. First, I want to talk about some honourable mentions:
Pokemon Legends: Arceus (review)
This is the game that prompted me to write my very own top ten list of exclusive Switch games, because I saw this game on many gamers' top ten lists. I do not think PLA is a top ten Switch game. I feel like many people overrate this game because the core gameplay mechanic is different to the main-line Pokemon games. PLA still suffers from many of the same issues that the main-line Pokemon games have, including terrible visuals, performance issues, repetitive gameplay, and a boring story. I will not dispute that PLA is an important game for the direction of the Pokemon franchise, but to call this one of the best games on the Nintendo Switch is sacrilege from a group of gamers who are desperate to see a universally well-received Pokemon game.
New Pokemon Snap (review)
New Pokemon Snap is the actual best Pokemon game on the Nintendo Switch as it captures the spirit of the N64 classic.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity (review)
The Legend of Zelda + Dynasty Warriors = loads of fun, hack-and-slash combat in the Zelda atmosphere.
With all that, here is my quick list of my top ten exclusive Nintendo Switch games.
10: Super Mario RPG Remake (review)
An updated remake of the SNES classic with some nice quality-of-life upgrades.
Best "traditional" Zelda games on the Switch with a cool artstyle.
8: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (review)
Fun party fighter either by yourself or with friends with loads of characters to choose.
7: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (review)
Has all of what makes a good Mario platformer, with level design, presentation, and music.
6: Metroid Prime Remastered
One of the most faithful remasters of a video game by taking a classic and updating it for today's age of gaming.
5: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (review)
Best JRPG on the Switch that takes the best parts of both XC1 and XC2.
4: Super Mario Bros. Wonder (review)
Best 2D Mario platformer since Super Mario World all the way back on the SNES.
3: Kirby and the Forgotten Land (review)
This game is the reinvention that the the Kirby series needed, with its infinite charm and outstanding attention to detail.
2: Super Mario Odyssey (review)
Easily the most fun I have ever had playing a Nintendo Switch game.
Two of the best action-adventure and open-world games ever made, and is another hallmark in the Legend of Zelda series.
